Testimonials

"I have found the Common Ground Clinics presented by Regina Wendler and Andy Kurtz absolutely unique in my experience. I've attended a variety of clinics over the years.  All were the usual:  clinicians who followed one particular way of working with or riding horses. In most of those clinics I learned a lot, but I never felt that they broadened my horsemanship.  Rather, they confirmed my normal way of working with horses, which can only take you so far.

What's brilliantly done by Regina and Andy in the CGC is that, while they each bring their personal backgrounds with horses to the mix, recognizing their differences, they always unabashedly support and advance each other's way of working with horses.  This complementary approach to horsemanship is given unselfishly and uncritically to the clinic participants.  It is tremendously refreshing and lively to be in a clinic setting with two such different riders, and to share the arena with such varied participants. I find that it's improved my riding immensely and made me more open to using everything in the horse world to my benefit.

In terms of specifics, I'd like to highlight that it's obvious throughout  the clinic that Regina and Andy have given profound thought to what they want the participants to learn and to how they are going to teach.  Exercises are progressive, well-explained, thoroughly thought through and, very important, meaningful to all levels of rider.   Regina and Andy are both skilled at providing clear instructions and giving insightful feedback while exercises are being practiced.  Laughs and good humor abound at the Common Ground Clinics, as does great food and camaraderie.

Thanks to Regina's and Andy's willingness to cross normally forbidden boundaries, to share their talents in roping, reining, dressage and jumping, clinic participants get the benefits of two clinics in one."

"Bringing a young horse to the Common Ground Riding clinic was a new experience for me and my horse, and I didn't know what to expect. I was thoroughly surprised and happy how everything was organized and how smoothly everything ran. It was the best money I could have spent to have the opportunity for my horse and I to learn together and feel more comfortable with one another. Andy and Regina spent time working with everyone as a group and individually. I felt that we were given good training ideas and also shown what we could expect from our horses. I am looking forward to participating in the next clinic with Andy and Regina, I just wish there were more clinics throughout the summer that we could take advantage of- it was well worth it."

"Riding in the Common Ground Clinic gave me the opportunity to see that Gaited Horses perform their gait better if they can accomplish suppleness. Owning a Tennessee Walker, going forward is easy, but bending and achieving suppleness is not something most gaited horses are asked to do. Regina and Andi demonstrated to me that in slowing down my horse’s mind and body, as well as mine, and taking my horse through the steps of building a more supple horse, I improved the communication between my body and my horse’s body, enabling us to achieve a more balanced and smoother ride and gait. “This is a clinic that any rider can get something from no matter your specific discipline. Regina and Andy did a great job of pulling together the common foundation to sound horsemanship; and put together a fun and informative clinic. You are a dynamic duo. Thank You!”

"I ride both Performance horses and Gaited horses. I have found the common ground clinics to be invaluable to my "riding lifestyle." Riding with two professionals in and of itself is an absolute dream. The bond between Regina and Andy starts first with their passion and love for these animals. Their professional careers have carried them on different paths to the same place. It is so rewarding to have two different disciplined professionals with the same beliefs and priorities...it's really all about the horse and how to guide it to it's full athletic potential. It is refreshing to find professionals that value true balance, lightness, quality of movement to ultimately promote the soundness of the animal as priority, regardless of the type of saddle they ride in. For me to be able to take everything I might learn that day on my performance horse and be able to successfully use it for my gaited horse is proof that their theories, beliefs and the progressions developed to promote them are of the highest quality. My "riding lifestyle" holds many directions...I exist frequently in two types of saddles so finding the common ground between the two has simplified, organized and made my training time extremely more efficient."

"I completed a 30 day training program for "Zeus" today. The information and techniques you both helped me with a few weeks ago in the Common Ground lesson was invaluable. You provided a roadmap for me to follow in taking Zeus from a horse whose owner was frustrated and unwilling to ride, to a horse she and her family now adore and are committed to riding for a very long time! Here is what the owner, Lori Livingston, had to say: "Thank you for the new horse! You have been amazing and the changes were greater than expected. Thanks for all your hard work, tenderness and skills. I look forward to working with you in the future. The kids are excited to work with you too!" Lori Livingston, Mesa Equestrian Center.

You both gave me the confidence to help Lori with this horse, Zeus. The kudos really belong to you both! Looking forward to the July Clinic. Many thanks again."
